If we discuss the culture and the art in Gostivar, we must not skip the name of the member of the "Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts"(MANU), the sculptor Tomislav Serafimoski, Serafim.
Serafimovski was born in the village Zubovce, in the Gostivar area, a picturesque place at the foot of the snowy Shara Mountain. In 1953, he enrolled in the "School of Applied Arts" in Split, which is important to his turning to sculpture as a predominant medium. Even more important is the period of his studies at the "Zagreb Art Academy", under the tutelage of the well-known sculptor A. Augustinchich. With the recommendation of his professors, he left for Paris in 1966, and over a period of four years attended classes at the Academy of Fine Arts. In Paris, he spent three years as an assistant in the studio of the famous sculptor from Argentina Alisia Penalba.
After this period of dynamic learning and experience, Serafimovski returned to Macedonia, where he spent some time working as a scenographer at Skopje Television. In the period from 1970 to 1984, he has been a director of the Cultural Association of Gostivar, an institution important for the cultural life of this region in Western Macedonia. After 1984, he lives and works in Skopje, and is an outstanding member of the "Macedonian Academy of Arts and Sciences"(MANU).
No words can give the idea of his work. That is why, we present some of them. So, go ahead, take a look.
